Hybrid Challenge with Jolyon Palmer and Jack Aitken

Following Felix Lamy, Riccardo Manfredini, Alexandros Palaiologos and Jaden Partridge’s success on the Simulator challenge, the four winners all progressed to the next challenge in the series. This trial was created to challenge their skills on the INFINITI Q50 Hybrid’s Energy Recovery System (ERS).

The four INFINITI Academy Engineers were split into two teams. Each team was given a Q50 Hybrid road car, a Renault Sport Formula One Team driver, and track time. With two track runs per team, they were challenged to maximise the energy recovered by the vehicle utilizing the track as efficiently as possible.

The key to success was to read and understand the track’s layout and contours, and then work as a team on how to manoeuvre the car around the track in the most effective way possible. A carefully weighted time limit ensured that the teams maintained swift progress around the track.

Alexandros and Felix, along with their driver Jack Aitken, were challenged all the way by fellow Academy Engineers Jaden and Riccardo, with Jolyon at the wheel. Although Alexandros and Felix recovered a substantial amount of energy, the winning engineering team was Jaden and Riccardo, recovering the most electric energy through the Q50 Hybrid’s ERS.

The winning team will now progress to the final challenge in the series, going head-to-head in an F1 engineering task at the famous Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
